Walter and Donny

Cosmic Americana.

JUST RELEASED new song: Helplessness

Walter and Donny performs Cosmic Americana -- a mix of Americana pop songs blending in an alt-country feel and elements of space-rock.

You might hear elements of classics like The Beatles or The Allman Brothers or The Byrds emerging from their songs. But, you will always hear their strong and welcoming melodies weaving the same kinds stories and themes that make our mutual lives together compelling and beautiful: stories of family, unrequited love and the feeling of being alive on a reflective Tuesday afternoon.

Walter and Donny formed in 2011 as an extension of a long-running friendship and musical relationship. Band members, Jon Stewart and Rex McFarlin, have been working together for years, sometimes in other projects. But, Walter and Donny is the culmination of those years working together. The band has released an album, a couple singles and continue to write, release and perform. While Walter and Donny almost always performs as a duo, their recorded releases expand to full instrumentation. Their music can be found everywhere online: cdbaby.com, Spotify, iTunes, Napster, etc.

Released in 2012, "Back to Wyoming," Walter and Donny's first album accentuates the band's cosmic americana perspective with a collection of songs about lost love, homecoming, and the roots of family and individual living in one of America's quintessential cowboy states. On cdbaby: Back to Wyoming

Released in 2016, the song, "Catalog Girl," is a single described as an "...(u)nrequited, dreamy love song full of longing and a twist on reality." On cdbaby: Catalog Girl

Released in 2016, the song, "Cascadia," is a song about a true American woman. It's one volley in a back-n-forth set of songs (the full set of songs is in the works) between a man and a woman in love whether they recognize it or not. On cdbaby: Cascadia

Released in 2017, the song, “Helplessness,” is a song about being propelled into the complexity of being a relationship and the beauty of living. On cdbaby: Helplessness

Walter: "We've been in so many different music projects together. We've known each other for about 14 or 15 years, now. We've done different things together and then gone off and done other things, but we've always stuck together."

Interviewer: What do you like most about making music and being in a band?

Walter: That's a good question.

Donny: Warm fuzz.

Walter: Warm fuzz?

Walter: It's just fun to play...

Donny: You can work out your artistic visions. It's an attempt to approximate a certain kind of truth. There is just so much overwhelmingly good music out there and we just want to be a part of that joy.

Walter: Shut up, Donny! Am I wrong here?

Writing songs is an attempt to create places to return to. Joy, not jaded. Places full of longing, rendering; dimensional, effervescent...

“…it takes us out of our existence. At the same time, it exists with us and gives us a back-drop of our existence…”

June 22, 2016: “…listening to Keith Richard’s solo album, “Main Offender,” I keep returning to the sentiment that for art you really have to do just what you love and feel free to regard or disregard other opinions as you see fit.”

“One goes through one's day with varying degrees of conscious awareness intermingled with moments in which the subconscious emerges and permeates that conscious awareness. it's like a filtering, a shading of that conscious awareness.....it's not that one loses one's ability to stay conscious and aware. But, there is something like a transport into that filtered experience. Music seems to draw us into that transported filtering. It allows for remembrances of earlier emotions and sentiments and experiences (among other things....)…”

Your dancin' eyes are smilin' into me.

They're deep into me.Suddenly I'm flyin',

I'm skyin', sky highin'I can almost feel you near me

I feel you near me

You throw your arms around me

You say you've found me.

You've finally found me.

Catalog girl

Would you let me in?

As I gaze into your world,

your eyes drift me in.

And, I know I never will hold you

or feel the soft touch of your skin

I can look deep into your picture

My fantasy world will begin

will begin again.

It begins again.

Do do do do do.

And, I know I never will hold you

or feel the soft touch of your skin

I can look deep into your picture

My fantasy world will begin

will begin again.

It begins again.

I must close this book and leave you

I must leave you

And come back to this real world

this real world

hmmmm
